Praying the rosary

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy originated from the visions of St. Faustina from Jesus in which she wrote over 600 pages in her diary. It’s an easy prayer to pray, and you can learn how to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy with the pdf download we have for you.

The main message of the revelations is that Jesus desires that we trust and immerse ourselves in His mercy.

Along with the message of His great mercy, He also gave her a chaplet in devotion to His mercy. This chaplet can be prayed everyday or when we are able.

In addition to the chaplet itself, he asked that a novena be recited in each of the nine days before the Feast of Mercy.

This Feast of Mercy is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday, which is the Second Sunday of Easter. The novena starts on Good Friday.

How to Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet on a Rosary

The chaplet is prayed using rosary beads. It can be prayed individually or as a group.

It can be recited or there are also a few song versions.

It begins like we begin all prayers, with the Sign of the Cross.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Then the Our Father is prayed.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

After the Our Father, pray a Hail Mary.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Then the Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

After that, we begin the 5 decades of the chaplet. The prayer said on the large bead is:

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

On each of the 10 small beads, pray:

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

After you have prayed all 5 decades, it concludes with a doxology that is prayed three times:

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (3 times)

To end the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, there is an optional closing prayer:

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

This is a very powerful prayer and devotion. Praying the chaplet will open you to God’s infinite mercy and grace.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet can also be sung. There are several song versions of the prayer, but this one is my favorite by Matt Maher. (This video only has the last decade of the chaplet, but you can learn the tune from it.)
